Questions

Frequently asked

Is it really free?

Yes. There are no ads, purchases, or subscriptions, and you don't need an account.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. Articles, pictures, and facts come live from Wikipedia, so the app needs to be online to load them. Offline reading is planned.

Does it collect any information about me?

No. Your favorites, settings, and game progress stay on your computer. The app connects only to Wikipedia and Wikidata to fetch what you ask for, and to GitHub to check for updates. Read the privacy policy.

Why does Windows warn me when I download or run it?

Windows SmartScreen warns about new apps that haven't been downloaded by many people yet. Encyclopedia 2000 is signed by its verified publisher, and the warning fades as more people use it. If you see it, click More info → Run anyway.

How do I update it?

The installed version updates itself: when a new version is ready, a Restart Now button appears in the status bar. The portable version tells you when there's a new one to download.

Is it made by Wikipedia or Microsoft?

No. Encyclopedia 2000 is an independent project. It isn't affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation or Microsoft.

Will there be a Mac or Linux version?

Yes. Coming soon.

How do I report a bug or suggest an idea?

Use Help → Send Feedback in the app, join the Discord, or use the feedback form (no account needed).
